Through affiliate commissions. When you buy hosting through some of the links on this site, the provider may pay us a fee or a percentage. You pay the same price either way.
That is a real conflict of interest, so here is how we handle it.
What commissions do not change
- The order of anything. Tables are sorted by the criterion named in their caption, such as renewal price, size of the price jump or cost per site, never by what we are paid.
- Whether we recommend against a purchase. Every review includes a section on who should not buy the product.
- Which providers we cover. We write about providers without an affiliate program when they are the right answer, and we say when we earn nothing from a recommendation.
What they do influence, honestly
Which providers we covered first. There are hundreds of hosts and we cannot cover them all at once, so providers with affiliate programs were written up earlier. That is a bias in the breadth of our coverage, and it is more useful to tell you about it than to pretend it does not exist.
Programs we use
We participate in, or have applied to, affiliate programs run by hosting providers and domain registrars, including Hostinger, Kinsta, Cloudways, SiteGround and Namecheap. Links to these providers pass through a /go/ redirect and are marked as sponsored.
No paid placements
We do not accept paid placements, sponsored posts or link insertions, and we do not change rankings in exchange for higher commission rates.
